Unlike mechanical filters that physically block particles, ESP uses high-voltage electric fields to charge and collect airborne contaminants. The process operates continuously with consistent pressure drop throughout the service life.
Oil mist, smoke, fumes, grease aerosol and fine particles enter the ESP unit from the exhaust ductwork or directly from the pollution source.
A coarse mesh or panel pre-filter captures large particles and droplets, protecting the downstream ionization section and extending the cleaning interval between ESP maintenance cycles.
Fine particles pass through a high-voltage ionization field. The electric field imparts a positive charge to airborne particles — including sub-micron oil mist droplets that pass through mechanical pre-filters.
Charged particles enter the collection section and are attracted to grounded collection plates by electrostatic force — adhering to the plate surface and being removed from the airstream.
Purified air exits the ESP unit. Where odor or VOC control is required, an optional activated carbon or UV photolysis stage treats the air downstream of the electrostatic collection section before final discharge.
